uBar is a Dock replacement app. If you run macOS, you know about the Dock, the movable row of icons that you can use to select what program you want to use today, or what program you want to switch to. The Dock is great, but it also has some issues. uBar attempts to resolve those issues without creating any of its own. Here's how it measures up.
Become The Taskmaster
uBar's biggest feature is in the name: it provides the option of using a taskbar instead of a dock. It does, however, also have a dock mode. The dock version is somewhat staid and blocky by default compared to the macOS Dock, but it still has rounded edges and an appropriate grey colour. The taskbar version doesn't fit in quite as well, being a matte black colour, but it provides more of the app's features. You can get app flashes, progress in the taskbar, and a better idea of what apps aren't currently working. It also comes with superior multiple monitor support.
Raising The Bar
Overall, if you are looking for a dock replacement, uBar is a worthy one, and it is also a fantastic way to bring a taskbar to macOS. Though it lacks a few Dock-specific features, it has many others, from those described above to a simple clock. If you want a sleek, chic, and mostly form-fitting dock or taskbar, start here.
